Automaton Laboratory is a scientific application that lets you design and create an automaton. An automaton is basically a system of calculations (in reality a system of planned co-ordinates) that transmit rotational movement, moving from one to the other and thus provoking a hierarchical effect.

In Automaton Laboratory each one of the circles is in the system, except the principle one. It needs to move round the circumference in order to produce the knock-on effect in all the others.

From the graphic editor in Automaton Laboratory you can create mathematical curves called epicicloides and hipocicloides. The system of circles can be viewed as if it were a movie, or directly printed out.
